Hadil Moufti
Hadil Moufti is a visual artist whose practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of the interrelations among identity, memory, and belonging. Her work unfolds through collage, formmaking, and repetition. A graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design in Paris, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Moufti brings to contemporary art a distinctive perspective shaped by both rigorous academic study and intuitive introspection. Moufti’s work has received international recognition and is held in major collections, including the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah and Dubai Collection.

Moufti’s artistic inquiry is grounded in the belief that humanity is at once unified and fragmented, emerging from a single origin yet scattered across cultures and histories. This observation propels her to construct interior, phantasmagorical worlds: utopian spaces where differences dissolve into rhythm and connection. Her compositions reimagine childhood tales, biblical narratives, and architectural fragments drawn from diverse cultural and historical contexts, creating a visual language that reflects the universality of human experience.

Through intricate hand-cut collages and serial patterns, she transforms everyday life objects into visual poetry: family keepsakes, photographs, domestic objects, and familiar creatures such as moths, sheep, and beetles.
The mundane becomes precious, reordered into patterns of harmony and multiplicity. Her technique of cutting and assembling images is both meditative and methodical, like a ritual act where a rhythmic refrain is repeated with subtle variations in tone and melody. She builds multiple iterations within a single series, each evolving toward an eventual crescendo, or what Moufti calls a ‘metamorph’ – the culmination of her study on the evolution of forms.

Her compositions often recall musical structures which are steady, accumulative, and transformative akin to the ostinato of Ravel’s Boléro. The power of repetition to generate rhythm, pattern, and emotional resonance lies at the core of her work. ‘I love listening to remixes of the same song,’ she notes. ‘It’s a bit like my interest in serialism, one version is never enough. I need the variations.’
Moufti’s practice is consciously free of political or social agendas. It resists national identity and instead inhabits a universal space of shared symbols, where myth, literature, and spirituality intertwine. Her exploration of the life of forms examines how images live, transform, and repeat through time, echoing the persistence of collective memory.

An active member of 8th Street Studios, one of the UAE’s leading art platforms, Moufti continues to contribute to the region’s vibrant cultural landscape, expanding the boundaries of contemporary art through her provocatively delicate compositions. In her practice, patterns of repetition are not decoration but meaning: a rhythm through which memory becomes form, and form becomes a bridge between the personal and the universal.
